Kökar's hometown museum
At the Kökars museum you can see, learn and experience how the Kökars lived in the past. The museum is housed in the Österbygge-Hellsö old school from 1913 and was opened by Kökar Hembygdsförening in 1988.
Kökar's church
The church site has a long and partly difficult to interpret history, but is perhaps best known for the fact that one of the three Franciscan convents in medieval Finland was founded here. However, extensive excavations at the site suggest some kind of activity as early as the 13th century. The fact that the name Kökar is mentioned in the so-called The Danish itinerary from the end of the same century shows that the area – and then especially Hamnö – was already a well-known port location connected to important shipping routes.
