For more than a hundred years, people have lived, worked and welcomed guests here by the sea.
Our cottage village is more than just a place to stay – it’s where the peaceful archipelago and our family history come together.
Our story began in 1900, when Hulda and Valfrid arrived to build a life in the archipelago. At that time there were no roads and no buildings here. They built their home by the beach and raised their five children surrounded by the sea and nature. With the next generation, the place slowly began to welcome guests as well. Their son Albin and his wife Anni sometimes let friends stay in their summer cottage – today known as Lillstugan. That simple idea of sharing this special place with others became the beginning of what is today our cottage village.
In 1977 their son Sune moved here with his wife Inger, who comes from the Tornedalen region in northern Sweden. During a few busy years the road here was built, six log cabins were constructed, and both a barn and a boathouse were added. In 1978 the cottage village was officially founded. In the late 90s, the old barn was converted into a guesthouse. Since 2022 the cottage village has been run by the next generation. Maria, daughter of Sune and Inger, moved to Kökar to continue caring for the place where her family has lived for generations. By her side is Kim, who grew up in Nykarleby.
For us, this is more than a cottage village – it’s a home. And we’re happy to share it with our guests.
